Uber Lighting Mission Bay

Part of the new Uber corporate headquarters lobby in Mission Bay, San Francisco and completed for Machine Histories. My job was to design and fabricate continuous strings of easily maintained LED diffuser tubes to display animations throughout the space. The end result is over 3,000 linear feet of programmable lighting for Uber's new corporate lobby.

I designed all of the mechanical connectors to be injection molded plastic parts. Extensive design revisions were done to minimize unique part counts and keep short run tooling costs at a minimum.

Custom PCB's were designed to interlink each light tube in a series connection. The final design allowed for quick replacement of tubes which mounted to the surrounding metal structure for nearly seamless continuous lighting down a run of tubes.

The end result was close to 1,000 led tubes that create a striking display in the lobby of the new Uber headquarters.
