Intelligent Mobility

Intelligent Mobility was a non-profit I helped co-found with a group of CalTech, students while I was attending Art Center in Pasadena to create low cost appropriate wheelchairs for the developing world. We partnered with Landivar University and the Transitions foundation in Guatemala who would use local labor to produce the chairs for the community.

Because of the adverse street conditions found around the world there is a great demand for safe, durable and low cost chairs that can be easily repaired. Because the IMI chair uses standard welded tube construction and bicycle bearings it can be repaired for a fraction of the cost of normal chairs.

Intelligent Mobility received a Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award in 2008.
